Welcome to My Home
You turn off the road and onto a private driveway that meanders up a gentle hill through tall trees. The trees seem to welcome you, while at the same time, keep a careful eye on you as you make your way through the land they guard.
The house sits at the top of the hill. You might have expected some grand mansion as you drove up, but it’s nothing over the top. Not too big, not too small. Guests are welcome and feel comfortable during their stay, but the house isn’t so big that it feels empty without them.
The driveway ends in a circle in front of the house, with the attached garage on the left. So if you enter the circle on the right and continue counter clockwise, you can pull right into the garage, which was left open for your arrival.
The first thing you might notice about the garage is how bright it is inside. Garages are normally dark and shadowy, places to store cars, holiday decorations, and half-finished home projects. Here, the daylight streams in unhindered through numerous windows and skylights. It highlights a surprisingly clean space. A crystal ornament bought from one of the town’s local artists hangs in a window and casts tiny rainbows across your car. You don’t feel the urge to hurry into the house; you’ve already taken your first step in, even if it is just the garage.
